Apr 29, Free Anti-virus Program and it's from Microsoft!

Usually 'free' anti-virus programs are limited unless you decide to upgrade from the demo version. Interestingly, Microsoft has their anti-virus, anti-malware program. While I've only installed it on my test desktop, so far I like the fact that unlike other AV programs, it doesn't take up a lot of system resources which can make your computer appear sluggish. Has Microsoft finally got it right?

Do you still have data stored on your floppy disk? Do you even have a floppy disk? I used to 'swear' by them when it came to troubleshoot problem computers years ago. Now with CDs, DVDs and flash replacing the storage media wars, floppy disks are officially 'out of style'.

Apr 12, Microsoft Windows Gets Reduced Support

Since Microsoft is all about Windows 7 now, it seems to be showing less concern for it's older operating systems: Windows 2000, XP and Vista.

Next to Windows 7, Windows XP is still my personal favorite operating system. Very user friendly, easy to troubleshoot/fix/repair, etc. and it's just a stable operating system.

Just like Windows ME (Windows what?) Windows Vista, although eye-candy, was clearly a cough and major hiccup by Microsoft - and after realizing this, it now seems that getting support for Windows Vista may be harder than before. Makes you wonder why they just didn't wait to get it right.

After spending time with the beta version of Windows 7, I quickly realized that I should have waited to upgrade to Windows Vista. I'm always trying out new things in relation to computers but with a quicker start-up, recognizing new devices, easier troubleshooting wireless connections, etc. Windows 7 is definitely the OS everyone should have or at least check out. I think Windows 7 is here to stay.

I knew it was going to be a matter of time. I needed a new computer and I knew I couldn't get Windows XP without placing a special order. I received the Windows Vista Home Premium edition installed and after spending a few days on it, I actually like it - so far. I've noticed right away that the 'look' of this operating system is different. I will say that it's 'better-looking' than Windows XP. It's also very easy and quicker to install new software and hardware devices that you want to attach to your computer. My verdict is: so far, so good. I'll add more thoughts as I spend more time with it.

May 16, Rent or Own Your Computer?

There are many companies offering rent or lease to own equipment such as computers, appliances, electronics and furniture.

They try and appeal to those with poor credit and/or those that can't afford to purchase their own computer - well, I have news for you: You can OWN your computer!

Aaron's Sales & Rental, Rent-A-Center, etc. offer used desktop and laptop computers and printers anywhere from $20-40 a week or they offer monthly payment plans.

Instead of saving money, you will end up paying out MORE money than what the actual computer is worth. And in most cases, the computer are used - by someone else who could no longer afford to pay their high prices.

Do not waste your money by renting or leasing a computer, save your money and buy a computer and it will be yours to keep.
